Jake Peavy Tunes Out Trade Rumors

Sep 18, 2014 6:05 AM

Jake Peavy is a trade candidate for the Boston Red Sox as the deadline nears.

Peavy, who will be a free agent this coming winter, is 1-6 with a 4.93 ERA this season.

"I have a great relationship with my pitching coach (Juan Nieves), my manager (John Farrell) and my general manager (Ben Cherington)," Peavy said.

"We're all very open with each other. I don't need any clarity on any situation involving anything. At the end of the day, you do what you're told, work as hard as you can work, get better at your craft. That's the way I approach each day and will continue to do that. If you start worrying about stuff like that, your focus is off where it needs to be and it's going to affect things."

Headley Doesn't Think He Needs Change Of Scenery

Oct 23, 2014 10:54 PM

Chase Headley has been mentioned in trade rumors for a few years and will be once again as the July 31 non-waiver deadline approaches.

The Toronto Blue Jays are one team giving Headley consideration.

Headley, who has had a number of injuries, doesn't think a trade will cure what has ailed him.

"Even when things are going full-on crappy, like now, I'm confident that sometime in the near future, I'm going to get healthy, stay healthy and start playing the way I know I'm capable of," he said. "Whether that's here or somewhere else, who knows? I don't think a change of scenery is going to bring that about ...

"I don't look at it like, 'Man, I gotta get out of here to be me again.' I'm going to be me again, whether it's here or somewhere else. If I'm me, that's good. Playing the way I can play, I know that's valuable."

Price: I've Never Been As Good As I Am Right Now

Dec 2, 2014 7:35 AM

David Price struck out 11 batters on Wednesday, becoming the first pitcher in a decade to fan at least 10 in five straight starts.

"I've never been as good as I am right now, period. Not in 2012 (when he won the Cy Young Award), not in college, not in high school," declared Price, who is rumored to be on the trading block. "This is the best pitcher I've ever been. I feel in complete control on the mound at all times.

"I'm throwing all my pitches on both sides of the plate, and that's tough to do."

Price also set a franchise record for strikeouts in a month with 54.

Trade Rumors Put Price In 'Bad Mood'

Sep 26, 2014 9:26 PM

David Price's name will be involved in trade rumors up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, unless the Tampa Bay Rays move him before.

"I'm still here," Price told reporters on Tuesday afternoon.

Price, who has pitched well as of late, admitted that the rumors are weighing on his mind.

"I mean, obviously I think about it," Price said. "That's why I've been in a bad mood the last week and a half. I think about it. You guys know that. And it's nothing I really want to talk about. I don't have an answer for you guys. I don't know where I'm going. I don't know when I'm going. So there's nothing I can really comment on."

Price was the first overall pick back in 2007.

Utley Not Planning To Wave No-Trade Rights

Oct 31, 2014 4:26 PM

Chase Utley has no plans to waive his no-trade rights, which would allow him to veto a trade to another team.

"Well, you're creating situations that aren't necessarily going to happen," Utley said when asked about his clause. "I guess we'd have to see at that point, but I don't plan on going anywhere."

Utley, 35, is hitting .295/.357/.456 with five homers in 314 plate appearances.

Rays Prepared To Trade David Price

Sep 16, 2014 10:27 PM

No trade is imminent, but the Tampa Bay Rays are prepared to move David Price "right now" if the right offer is made, according to rival officials.

The Rays have dealt with injuries, combined with poor efforts from Evan Longoria and Wil Myers, which have them at the bottom of the American League East.

"The expectation of rival officials is that sometime in the days ahead, some team is going to call Rays GM Andrew Friedman with the right offer, with enough pitching included to fill Tampa Bay's organizational need," Buster Olney writes.
